This project seamed to take on it's own life form. We started out just wanting a a radar arch for the radar and perhaps some solar panels. Afer months of messing around and fitting we realized we had headed down the road of complicated and time comsuming. We agreed that we only want to build this once and with that it got huge. We removed the old push pit stern rails and stantions. Decided to incorporate solid handrails past the cockpit exit for safety. a seat in the stern rail , davits, antanaes and safty equipment. The pictures show the first fitting. Fortunately we were able to install this after just two fittings.

Jan 1 2011 Happy New Year !!

I have decided to re-activate the Log for Double Deuce

We have spent many months re fitting and thankfully using the boat.

We will be posting many new stories and photos from last year as well as the new on going things with the beast. We used the boat all summer the engine is very smooth running (no vibration) The new roller furler works great. We managed to get a new fridge and freezer installed just before we left on holidays only tyo have the fridge stop working. After a few hours removing it having it serviced (a pin hole at the coupling weld )then recharging it again all has been great. All the hatches are finally installed and the at head has been rebuilt. The new matress made by Royal city bedding has proved to be the best thing better than are bed at home.

Just a hole or two

What has started out as a reasonable task has turned into a series of roadblocks and deadlines. We new we had to haul the boat out in order to get the thru hulls removed that were in the way of the Verna-lift muffler. So off to Mosquito Creek we go, being towed of course by the clubs small workboat with a 15 hp motor, it's surprising how good we move with just 15hp if we ever get the 100 hp up and running things will be great. Hauled out we had a number of jobs to tackle remove the thru hulls not use for anything, I have asked myself many times "why the capped thru hulls and why so many thru hulls" (spares in case one fails lol ) cutlass bearing re and re the important one HOW long does the new drive shaft have to be???? So I cut the old 1.25" shaft with a re cip saw because the shaft brake coupling was seized to it. 5 metal blades later and 45 min. of sweating and language issues , just like that it was cut. took out the shaft measurement done Check 1 next remove thru hulls 3 but decided to remove 5 (I was filling and fairing anyway) A friend from work (Dan) asked if I needed help? How are you with a grinder?? Thanks Dan!! we hole sawed out 5 thru hulls ground the bottom and sealed the holes back up in one day :) Ordered a new prop a 3-blade Max prop got the price (I think I own the company ) I'm not sure I can keep playing the safety card with Karen much longer, she's asking alot more questions these days. so after 4 days out and alittle over a boat buck we are in the water waiting for the prop to arrive ,get a shaft built nad a tide over 15' so we can get on the tidal grid at BYC and save alittle money installing the shaft. With any luck we will be up and running by the end of MARCH. As we got the engine in position we realized it was tighter than planned. The wrenches started working and parts began falling away and I remember saying "where did that just come from?" after about 1 hour we manged to get the engine down the hatch about the sametime the boat touched bottom, The problem is the enigine is in the salon we have to re rig it put the mounts back on and lower it into the engine room. we managed to move the boat off the wall about 4' and that gave us enough depth to hurry up and finish.

So from this to that:)

We measured & check the website specs for the Yanmar 100hp engine we ordered. It's going to be really tight down the companionway hatch, unlike when we removed the perkins that was easy if it was in the way just bust it off the engine. We would like this one to go in as a unit. We knew the engine mounts had to come off and hopefully that was all.

The day arrived The tide was at a max (16.1) we prepared the engine for the lift.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289060322533044306" style="FLOAT: right; It had sat secure to the dock for just over two years with no heat or fans in it and all the hatches and windows leak (you get the picture). My surveyor said it was the top of the list (not the list you want to be on). The yard nic named it the LANDFILL 48 when I saw it I new it could be a great boat again. I took Karen down to it knowing full well that if I could get her on my side (she always seems to come around) all would be right. First was to throw out anything not attached. If it had fabric or foam in it,out it goes.

We spent about 20 hours cleaning throwing away and finding out what was what. The batteries were all dry so nothing 12v worked shore power was working so we replaced 6 golfcart batteries and some stuff started to work. The lighting was the first change raplacing the main cabin lights so we could see. Than into the engine room. Right from the start we knew the engine was coming out and a new one going in.
